Summer G4ming

The fine folks at Valve have seen fit to grace us with a free game. And who are we to turn down free video games!

Therefore, on Thursday at 8pm we will be playing Alien Swarm, available free on Steam. I have no idea how servers work for it or such like, but join us on our TeamSpeak server (available here, and connect to teamspeak.buncs.com, port 9992), and we'll figure it all out.

BONUS: There's an achievement that gets you a hat in Team Fortress 2! Everyone wants more hats, right?

tl;dr: Alien Swarm, Thursday, 8pm

Summer Gaming 3: Summer Gaming Strikes Back

It turns out that after last weeks Summer Gaming, we accidentally left the TF2 server up. So we've decided to leave it up! And therefore, since its available, and I'm sure everyone will want to turtle up with their shiny new engineering equipment, Summer Gaming on Wednesday will be TF2! We're still figuring out quite how to set it up, so check out the thread here if you have any comments on it. If the server is full, use the console to connect directly as we have some hidden slots you can use.

The Buncs Teamspeak server is also continuously available for your talking-to-people-over-the-internet needs, and IRC is a useful place for poaching people to play video games with you, potentially utilising the above stated VOIP application!

Summer Gaming 2: Revenge of Summer Gaming

I am assured that last week's Summer Gaming went awesome, so we thought it might be a good idea to do some more!

This Friday, we will be attempting to get Left 18 Dead 2 running on KingJ's servers. Assuming it works, mass zombie-survivor interaction for the masses. If not, standard L4D2 will be played, so you can still wang zombies to your heart's content!

After some feedback as to the early start time last week, we will be starting at 8pm with servers to be announced when we figure out why Valve can't write good lobby software for L4D2.

Summer Gaming 2010

PC overheating? Great big burning thing in the sky? Nothing to do? It must be the summer! Which means time for shooting people over the internet!

As with the last couple of years, we are planning to run semi-regular Summer Gaming sessions, via the magic of internet. We'll be starting this Wednesday (30th) with Team Fortress 2, with further dates and games to be announced (and decided!) in the future. Keep an eye on the forums, as polls are likely to emerge to see what people want to play.

You can't make this Wednesday, you say? If only there were some way to find people wanting to play games at an arbitrary time! Fortunately, we have preempted this problem three years ahead of time, in the form of our IRC channel, available at #buncs on irc.freenode.net. If you don't have an IRC client, not to worry! We have a handy web-based one here!. It couldn't be easier to find people to game with!

Wait, it actually is! We have a TeamSpeak 3 server as well, just waiting for you to jump on and talk to the people you're playing games with (headset with microphone required)! Download the client and then tell it to connect to teamspeak.buncs.com:9992. Feel free to use it for your gaming needs! If you have any issues, poke around in IRC (see above) and someone there should be able to help you.

tl;dr version: Wednesday, 7pm, server.buncs.com for TF2! Check the forums or our twitter for updates! Did I mention our twitter?

See forums for info.

Addendum: There will be a console session, please bring games/controllers because the rest of the committee seems fixated with Pokemon Rumble.

Lot's o' BUNCS stuff coming up!

Hey people!

BUNCS has a busy couple of weeks ahead. Here's what's happening:

- Console session on Wednesday at 4:15 in 5W 2.1. We're abandoning the Omegathon in favour of VIDEO GAMES, and so we need you to bring some and then to play them! Find all the details of the changes here.

- LAN! Our fourth LAN of the year is in less than 2 weeks, on the 19th March at 5:30, with LANPubbing on Friday evening at 8ish upstairs in the Westgate. More information here

- Elections! Nominations for next year's committee are still open, leading up to the next LAN when the voting will begin and our AGM will be held. More info here. We're still looking for a candidate for Treasurer and you are welcome to stand for positions which already have nominations.

Console Session 2: Modern Warfare 2

Round 2 of Omegathon part 2 is next Wednesday, in 6W1.1 at 4:15pm. The Omegathon game for this round will be Modern Warfare 2(Hopefully, see blow), because it's hard to ignore a game that's sold eleventy billion copies. If you don't care about Modern Warfare come anyway, because we're also planning to play House of the Dead:Overkill, there'll almost definitely be Brawl and if I can convince enough people to be childish with me we'll play Pokemon Rumble. Other games will hopefully happen, and if you have games you want to play bring them and we will! Afterwards, we will, of course, be heading to Sam Weller's in town for drinking and food and talking and maybe even some games.

More info on the forums.

Important bit!
None of us have Modern Warfare 2 on a console so we need you to help! If you have it on 360 or PS3 please post on the forums or email committee@buncs.com. Even if you can just bring the disc, we can sort out consoles and/or controllers. If no one brings it we'll have to find a replacement at the last minute, which would be bad.

If you're interested in what's happening during the rest of the year, the schedule page has all the information as we currently know it.

Console Session 1: Wii Sports: Resort

The new Semester is upon us and with that brings the second half of the Omegathon and 6 more console sessions. The first of which is next Wednesday(The 10th February) in 6W1.1 at 4pm. The Omegathon game for this round will be Wii Sports: Resort, in a format we haven't quite worked out yet, but it's almost guaranteed to be a lot of fun, because that is what Wii Sports is good at. So unless you're some kind of emotionless robot who can't derive joy from using a Wii remote to beat people about the head with pretend swords, you'd better be there!

6W1.1 is a bit out of the way and difficult to find, so there'll be someone in a BUNCS shirt waiting just inside Wessex House in the bit you go through to get from the Parade to 8W to point you in the right direction. Afterwards, we will, of course, be heading to Sam Weller's in town for drinking and food and talking and maybe even some games.

If you have any Wii Motion Plus attachments, and a copy of the game, we would be very grateful if you could bring them. The format will probably require 1v1 games so having a second Wii running the game would help things go faster, and we currently only have access to 2 motion pluses(plusi?). If there's any other games/systems you want to play bring them along too. Post here if you're going to bring something, have any questions, or want to smack talk in preparation for epic Wii Sports showdowns.

If you're interested in what's happening during the rest of the year, the schedule page has all the information as we currently know it.
